Meta is preparing custom hardware designed to power its future AI models:

• Iris reportedly passed testing without major issues • Production is currently targeted for September 2026 • Built primarily for large scale AI model inference • Built to reduce Meta’s dependence on Nvidia GPUs • Meta plans to launch a new custom AI chip roughly every six months • Meta could also spend up to $145 billion on AI infrastructure this year
